Statement on partial campus closure

Statement on partial campus closure

As a result of the industrial action called by UNISON, the majority of our campus will be closed on Monday 28 February, Tuesday 1 March and Wednesday 2 March. This is due to the limited number of colleagues in security roles available for work on these dates with the sufficient level of safety training.

We have contracted our estate to enable us to open certain areas safely. The following four areas only will be open for the delivery of key practical/skills-based sessions which cannot be delivered online, as well as to maintain access to study spaces, resources and support in Northampton Square Library:

  • Northampton Square reception and café
  • Tait Level 2
  • CitySight
  • Northampton Square Library, 10am-5pm

We sincerely apologise to our students and staff for any inconvenience this may cause.

Our immediate priority is to minimise disruption for our students and to protect their education and experience. Where possible, activities that can no longer take place on campus will be moved online, or they will be re-scheduled to take place as soon as possible.

Schools will be in touch with students about Programme-specific changes to activities.

Students should not attend campus for teaching unless their School confirms otherwise. All staff, apart from those working in the four specific areas, will be required to work from home on these dates.

We have been working hard in recent weeks to put plans in place to keep our buildings fully open, however, without the minimum number of trained staff on site we are unable to fully open our campus on these dates – the health and safety of all in our community is our top priority.

Library and student support services will be also available for students to access online.
