Title of thesis: Exploring the Driving Forces Behind Entrepreneurial Resilience: An Investigation into the Inspirations of Intersectional Entrepreneurs
Oct 2023
Summary of research
Entrepreneurial resilience has emerged as a topic of paramount significance in the ever-evolving world of business studies. As described by Bullough and Renko (2013), entrepreneurial resilience refers to the ability of entrepreneurs to persistently navigate, confront, and recover from the sundry challenges that punctuate their ventures. While resilience is crucial for all entrepreneurs, it takes on heightened significance for intersectional entrepreneurs. These are individuals who find themselves at the crossroads of multiple marginalized identities, such as immigrants or LGBTQ+ individuals.
The broader challenges of entrepreneurship, ranging from financial constraints to product risks and regulatory complexities, have been extensively documented (Aldrich & Yang, 2014). Yet, for intersectional entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurial landscape is riddled with even more pronounced obstacles. These include societal discrimination, issues tied to acceptance, and the overarching challenges of integrating into a milieu that often seems alien (Welter, 2011). The focal point of this research is to delve into the heart of a salient question: Amidst this amplified adversity, what sources of inspiration drive the resilience of intersectional entrepreneurs?
