Supply chain papers named among most influential of the past 30 years

Studies included in Production and Operations Management’s list of top 150 most influential studies

Two research papers from Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) have been named among the top 150 most influential papers published in the prestigious Production and Operations Management journal in the last 30 years.

The two papers include one authored by Professor Mohan Sodhi, Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management, and Gabriella Hastig, a recent graduate of the MSc in Digital Supply Chain Management programme who is currently a Senior Vendor Manager at Amazon.

Based on Gabriella’s supply chain master’s business research project that was supervised by Professor Sodhi, the paper – which is titled “Blockchain for Supply Chain Traceability: Business Requirements and Critical Success Factors” – seeks to guide operations management research on the implementation of supply chain traceability systems by identifying business requirements and the factors critical to successful implementation.

The other paper was also written by Professor Sodhi, as well as Dr Byung-Gak Son, Senior Lecturer in Supply Chain Management at Bayes. Focusing on supply chain risk management (SCRM), the study identified three gaps as well as ways to close them. The three gaps included a definition gap in how researchers define SCRM, a process gap in terms of inadequate coverage of response to risk incidents, and a methodology gap in terms of inadequate use of empirical methods.

Professor Sodhi said:

“I’m delighted to have two papers included by the Production and Operations Management journal, and in particular, I would like to congratulate Gabriella on this achievement. It is noteworthy that Gabriella’s paper is only three years old, while other papers have gained influence over 20 to 30 years. This also shows the impact that this paper is already having in the field.”

Gabriella said:

“I was delighted to learn that my master's thesis has been acknowledged as a significant work. I would like to thank my supervisor, Professor Sodhi, for making this possible and for the critical role the supply chain master’s at Bayes has played in this and my professional life since.”

Dr Oben Ceryan, Senior Lecturer in Operations Management/Supply Chain at Bayes, said:

“We are very proud that the research paper by Professor Sodhi and Gabriella has been selected in the list of the top 150 most influential papers published in Production and Operations Management in the last 30 years. This is such a unique and incredible recognition of our MSc in Digital Supply Chain Management programme, and I would like to congratulate both on the achievement.”
