Sumaita Uddin

Course: BSc Finance

What were you doing before you came to study at City?

I was at sixth form studying Biology, Psychology and Mathematics. I decided to pursue my love of the practical aspects of mathematics and statistics through a degree in Finance.

Why did you decide to apply to study at City, University of London?

The courses on offer at the Bayes Business School met all my requirements in terms of subject content and postgraduate opportunities (accreditations and exemptions). I had to consider the location of the University as I had plans to commute from home. City's location, which lies near the heart of London's business center, is essential for my course because of the networking opportunities. The easy access to London's social scene meant that my university experience would not only be academically fulfilling, but the freedom of my 20's would also be well-explored.

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

The content we cover and the modules for my degree are enjoyable, practical and relevant. For example, each of the subject matters we discuss are related to current world affairs such as Brexit or OPEC, so that whatever we learn, we can apply to real life and topical issues.

I am also very fond of my lecturers who are passionate about what they teach, incredibly helpful and welcoming at times of need.

What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?

I am a Marketing Student Ambassador. This is a great opportunity to learn professional skills and earn some money. I am also a part of the Italian Society and have plans to join Debating Society next year.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I plan to join a graduate scheme, through which I can hopefully complete my professional qualifications such as ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA.

What would be your top tip for our applicants?

Leave plenty of time for everything, including revision, application and deadlines. Year 13 can be an extremely stressful time but if you put in your best efforts, then there will be no room for regrets.
