Savvas Soteriou

Course: BSc Actuarial Science

What were you doing before you came to study at City?

I was studying at a private high school doing my A-Levels in Economics, Mathematics, Computing and Accounting, back in my home country Cyprus.

Why did you decide to apply to study at City, University of London?

Being the first university to teach actuarial science, City, University of London is one of the best universities when it comes to the subject, with many years of experience in the field. The fact that actuarial science is taught at the Business School (formerly Cass) and not at the School of Science & Technology caught my attention, as it was unique and a much better fit for me.

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

My favourite thing about studying at City, is that it is almost a campus university, with all the buildings in one place, but at the same time is located London with so many experiences and challenges down the road.

What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?

The Actuarial Science degree requires a lot of sacrifices and many hours of studying, but if you plan your time right, you will always find time to do other things you love. I am a Marketing Student Ambassador for City, University of London. I really enjoy helping people, touring them around the university and sharing my experiences of how it feels to study at City. I am also a Communications Officer of Hellenic and Cypriot Society, which is something I enjoy a lot, as we are bringing all the people from Greece and Cyprus together.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

My plan is to work for a few years in the UK while finishing my actuarial qualification and becoming a fellow actuary. After that I would like to move back to my country, Cyprus, where life is more relaxed.
