What was your time at university like?
My time in university was filled with joy and excitement. In the course of my degree, I was able to unlock my potential through discovering numerous modules, which helped me shape my entrepreneurial career. From strategy to operations management, each course played a huge role in nurturing my early entrepreneurial fibre. Studying in our business school and having access to one of the best lecturers and learning materials were definitely vital for the growth and success of my business.
What was the most memorable part of your university experience?
My graduation was my favourite moment and also been voted “ Most Developed Professional Mentee” in the 2013 Academic Impact Awards. I will also never forget the people that I have met in our university. One of the best things about City is its diversity. It puts you in contact with so many talented individuals from all around the world.
What has your career journey been like since graduating?
After graduating from the business school (formerly Cass), I did a master’s degree at the London School of Economics (LSE). I worked in banking then launched my own company. I have created BBN Times to revolutionise mainstream media by providing a voice and a platform for those willing to know more about the latest business and tech trends without any editorial bias. With the help of artificial intelligence, BBN Times is now equipped with an audio option across all articles to provide equal access to information. I have been featured in renowned publications such as Forbes, Thrive Global and Herald Tribune.
What is your current job role and what does a typical day look like?
I am a tech entrepreneur & international best-selling author based in Canary Wharf. As a Founder & CEO of BBN Times, I manage a team of more than 150 renowned industry experts. My first two books are Amazon best sellers. I usually start my work early in the morning. I plan my day by making sure that the most urgent work gets done first. I check my emails, calendar and meetings to organise my schedule at least 30 minutes before my breakfast. In this way, I can avoid any delays.
Then, I sit down and plan my tasks in order to ensure that all the work is moving forward without any glitches. I oversee and coordinate my developers’ progress on various projects that are assigned to them. I negotiate advertising deals, keep in touch with our experts and work on new updates. I am currently co-authoring a third book with a NASA solar system ambassador to help the next generation of entrepreneurs.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is the opportunity to challenge my intellect everyday through continuously learning new things. I consistently reinvent myself by adopting emerging technologies and introducing new processes. I read books and let my mind wander. I schedule more time to plan ideas by brainstorming. The secret to innovation doesn’t lie in natural ability, but in deliberate intuition and practice.
How did your university experience and degree help you to secure your job/jobs?
My university degree equipped me with strong mix of soft and technical skills that are important to create and scale a company with millions of readers on a monthly basis, as well as being able to manage different stakeholders and internal deadlines at the same time. Many modules were helpful in order to get a clear strategy on how to outperform in a competitive market and create an effective and sustainable business plan.
What advice would you give students who are thinking of studying here?
My advice would be to never give up. Surround yourself with successful individuals. Stay humble & curious by reading books. I also recommend to engage with people who are different from you. We hang out with individuals who are like us, and while doing so may be comforting, it’s not stretching. Everything can always be made better by listening to other perspectives.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
I would say knowledge. Make it an obsession to learn new things. It is the ultimate solution if you want to stay ahead of the curve, in a very fast paced world.
