Alumni Careers Event for MSc Management

Hello! My name is Anders Wetche, and I am half Danish and half Korean, and have lived across various parts of the world when growing up. I am currently a MSc Management student at Bayes Business School.

I decided to study management to extend my understanding of working in teams with people from completely different backgrounds. Additionally, wanting to remain in London, Bayes particularly caught my interest as it represented 24 nationalities across the previous course cohorts. I believe it is critical to meet people from all over the world to understand how people are different and to provide contrasting perspectives to expand your knowledge.

Alumni Careers Event

As one of the co-social coordinators for the MSc Management course, my responsibility was to help Dr. Daniel Beunza to organise the Alumni Careers Event, which was to take took place on 17 November 2022 at Bayes Business School’s auditorium. Responsibilities included several meetings with Dr. Beunza, and to verify facilities such as microphones, projectors, and chairs were set up in the auditorium before students and the guest speakers were present.

Guest speakers

The event’s purpose was for three guest speakers: Ehsan Razavizadeh (MSc Management, 2004), Alexander Wallot (MSc Management, 2014), and Ege Yilmaz (MSc Management, 2015), to speak about their career path upon graduating from Bayes, and introduce us to their experiences and opportunities they gathered along the way. After the guest speakers, the students had an informal session with an additional 30-35 alumni who came to share their experiences as well. Some key learning aspects of this event was for the students to gain insight and inspiration as to what their aspirations were after graduating, and to learn some tips and tricks on potential job opportunities and job applications. From the speakers, I personally learned that life isn’t a race about who succeeds faster, but rather being happy with your path in life and to always take risks if you believe they are worth taking.

Before the informal event took place, there were several faculty members who began with a speech, talking about the importance of our future careers, and lightly touching on our Term three electives, mainly the Consulting Project. The Consulting Project is an elective that is available for the MSc Management students where they will be able to go to an actual consultancy firm to gain first-hand experience and in-depth understanding of how consultancy firms operate on a day-to-day basis. After listening to the speech, I am extremely interested in choosing the Consultancy Project as one of my electives in Term three and it made me completely appreciate the opportunities that Bayes Business School provide to their students.

Making memories

Thus far, I have made some great memories and experiences that I will cherish from Bayes Business School upon graduation in September. Meeting cohorts from all over the world, with the addition of the effort and dedication from the university to help students through job applications, reviewing CVs, and career services have been immensely helpful. My favourite part so far of undertaking MSc Management was networking with others and the quality of teaching has exceeded my expectations compared to my undergraduate course.
