"The engagement with students from other universities around the world helped me to understand how to work in a team and express your opinion for real life problems of Finance and use Mathematics in order to solve them."

Country of origin: Cyprus
MSc course: MSc Financial Mathematics
Graduation year: 2016

What motivated you to study MSc Financial Mathematics? When did you first become interested in the subject?

As a graduate of the Mathematical Department of University of Athens, I gained an excellent mathematical background which includes both the knowledge of Pure and Applied Mathematics.

My dream was to apply what I have learnt and see the impact on real life and prove that mathematicians have room in the business. So, for this reason, I asked the advice of some professionals in the finance industry.

Their advice was to find a master’s degree that will help me to be a strong candidate in the employment market.

So, I decided to not “give up” this science and I found MSc Financial Mathematics which was closely related to Mathematics and Finance and I strongly believe choosing this degree was one of the best decisions of my life!

A significant factor that made me to consider Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) for my master’s is its strong, powerful presence in the industry and its location – this business school is really located in the “heart” of the finance district in London.

When I was applying for a masters, Bayes Business School was my first choice and priority because most of its graduates are successful and top professionals in their industries.

When I received my offer from Bayes, I was sure that this place would prove to be the beginning of something very good in my life.

How did you find the course?

The course was challenging and interesting for me but my previous engagement with mathematics helped me a lot to be prepared.

The engagement with students from other universities around the world helped me to understand how to work in a team and express your opinion for real life problems of Finance and use Mathematics in order to solve them.

My favourite modules are Stochastic Calculus I & II, Risk Analysis and Financial Engineering.

Some of my favourite memories from my master’s include a company presentation for Morgan Stanley, the chance to be in the finalists of the graduate scheme of NPower and the visit in the offices of Bloomberg.

Could you please tell us about your current role and roles you have had since graduating?

Currently, I work as a Risk Analyst in Ancoria Bank Ltd here in Cyprus and previously I spent almost four years in Alpha Bank Cyprus as a Credit Risk Analyst.

My master’s degree helped me to be not only a strong candidate but one of the top choices in every job interview.

My master’s degree has big value for me because has made me to be considered in in a small island like Cyprus  a mathematician in the business world and makes me to assert any job.

Also, Dr. Laura Ballotta and Dr. Gianluca Fusai have prepared for me excellent reference letters.

What advice would you have for students considering MSc Financial Mathematics at Bayes Business School?

I would advise all prospective students considering MSc Financial Mathematics at Bayes Business School to give the opportunity to themself to attend to this business school.

It is not only the knowledge and the support that this business school offers but it is also a life experience.

I feel really lucky that I managed to graduate from this Business School. Bayes Business School is not just a name or a university.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I would like to advise all the people out there to do not limit their challenges but challenge their limits.

Even though after graduating from such a Business school many people challenged my possibilities and abilities but I believe that always my experience and the advice that I got from Bayes Business will help me to overcome difficulties and obstacles and prove myself even at the last minute!
