What motivated you to study MSc Insurance and Risk Management? How did you find the course?
I began my career in the field of insurance during my studies by working in underwriting, a central point from which insurance companies connect with agents to compute business. I had picked up the interest in underwriting when studying the master's programme.
I would have to say it was the versatile structure of the course that provided students with learning opportunities and then allowed them to demonstrate their knowledge through various assessment methods, including coursework, practical exams, and group work.
Can you tell us about the Worshipful Company of Insurers Scholarship?
It has been a long-standing tradition of the Worshipful Chartered Insurers to support education and promote professionalism. As a result, the fund has allocated several grants to assist those who wish to enter the insurance industry. In addition, the fund has assisted those who are already in it to make the most of their education. The Bayes Business School Scholarship that I was awarded has contributed to the cost of my tuition. Inevitably, this has given me the opportunity for an unforgettable experience to study key areas across risk management and core insurance topics. This scholarship enabled me to form strong relationships with industry professionals who have provided me with a lot of support.
What did you enjoy most about the scholarship?
During my studies, I was assigned a mentor that was an active member of the WCI. Thus, on a weekly basis I took part in mentoring sessions with my mentor, I started to gain a deeper understanding of the work life within the industry. During later sessions, I began sharing my experiences of applying for jobs in insurance and my mentor had consistently given me tips and offered support until I had finally secured a role in the market. In my experience, the mentoring sessions were always exciting, which contributed greatly to my success in obtaining my first job in insurance.
