The future of macroeconomics
Dr Andrew Haldane, Chief Economist of the Bank of England and Professor Sir David F. Hendry, University of Oxford, speak at Cass
The Centre for Econometric Analysis at Cass Business School was pleased to host Dr Andrew Haldane, Chief Economist of the Bank of England and Professor Sir David F. Hendry, University of Oxford, for a special seminar on ‘ Macroeconomics: Theory and Practice’ on Tuesday 27th February.
Professor Hendry and Dr Haldane gave their views on the current state of macroeconomics and where it is likely to lead in the future, drawing on approaches at the Bank of England and from the Oxford Review of Economic Policy.
Guests were welcomed to the seminar by Professor Sir Paul Curran, President of City, University of London and the seminar Q&A session was chaired by Professor Marianne Lewis, Dean of Cass Business School.
About The Centre for Econometric Analysis
Led by Professor Giovanni Urga and funded by research grants notably from the ESRC and City of London corporate memberships, The Centre for Econometric Analysis is one of nine research centres in the Cass Faculty of Finance.
It promotes and supports research activities in methodological and applied macro and micro econometrics; financial econometrics; and theoretical and empirical research in financial markets and corporate finance.

The visibility of the Centre is ensured by regular publication of working papers and through workshops, seminars and international conferences.
About Dr Andrew Haldane
Dr Andrew Haldane is the Chief Economist at the Bank of England, a member of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee and Chair of the Government’s Industrial Strategy Council.
Among other positions, he is Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham, a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
Dr Haldane is the co-founder of ‘Pro Bono Economics’, a charity which brokers economists into charitable projects; and a trustee of National Numeracy.
About Professor Sir David Hendry
Professor Sir David Hendry is Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford where he was Chairman of the Economics Department from 2001 to 2007; and a Fellow of Nuffield College.
He is Director of the Programme in Economic Modelling at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School; and Co-director of Climate Econometrics.
He was previously Professor of Econometrics at the LSE and has held visiting appointments at Yale University; University of California at Berkeley and San Diego; and Duke University.
