Cass Business School hosted the 13th European Conference on Management Leadership and Governance (ECMLG) in December 2017.

Established in 2004, the ECMLG attracts participants from more than 35 countries including academic scholars, practitioners and those engaged in management, leadership and governance roles.

The conference was co-chaired by Dr Martin Rich, Senior Lecturer in Management, Cass Business School and Dr Dan Remenyi, former Visiting Professor in Information Systems Management, School of Systems and Data Studies, Trinity College, University of Dublin.

Dr Rich said he was very pleased that Cass was able to host such a prestigious, international event.

“The conference attracted a range of participants from around the world, who engaged in discussions which went to the root of what we mean by management.  We had two outstanding keynote speakers who offered different, and complementary, perspectives on leadership.  And we benefited from our excellent location in London.”

Keynote addresses from expert academics

There were keynote addresses from Dr Amanda Goodall, Senior Lecturer, Cass Business School and Dr Helen N. Rothberg, Professor of Strategy, School of Management at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Dr Goodall, whose research specialises in expert leadership, spoke on the subject of Why we Need core Business Experts as Leaders.  The speech examined the relationship between leaders and organisational performance, using findings from a variety of different settings in the UK and US, including healthcare, universities, Formula 1 and basketball.  Dr Goodall argued that we need core business experts as leaders, not simply professional managers.
