Professor Costas Grammenos honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award
Leading light of the shipping world presented with prestigious international award by Lloyds List
Professor Costas Grammenos CBE DSc has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lloyds List Global Awards 2018 in London.
It is an important honour for Professor Grammenos, the founder and Chairman of the Centre for Shipping Trade and Finance at Cass Business School, who is described by Lloyd’s List as a “leading global authority on shipping, trade and finance”.
Lloyds List said Professor Grammenos has: “shaped the sharpest minds in the maritime industry…over 40 years he has made a unique contribution to the global shipping industry by sharing his scientific and academic thought leadership. Through educating, mentoring and inspiring multiple generations of shipping executives, Professor Grammenos has arguably shaped the modern shipping industry as we know it.”
Professor Marianne Lewis, Dean, Cass Business School said the award was a testament to Professor Grammenos’ standing in the international shipping community and his role as “influencer of the influencers”.
“I was delighted to attend Tuesday’s ceremony and to see Costas presented with this prestigious honour. It is a testament to his unrivalled and longstanding reputation as a leading international expert in shipping, trade and finance. We offer him our heartfelt congratulations and are so proud of him and his work with our Cass community.”
Professor Grammenos said he was humbled to receive the award.
“I am very privileged because when in 1982 I joined Cass and City, University of London I was given the opportunity to create the Centre in such a great place. I am privileged to work with the Centre’s small but excellent team of academics and professional staff. I am privileged because we have over 3800 graduates from over 160 countries. And, finally, I am privileged because my wife gave me the luxury to spend long hours at the University and at home for the job I love, therefore at least 50 per cent of this award belongs to her.”
About the Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance
The Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance was established by Professor Grammenos in 1983 and renamed in his honour in April 2007.
It pioneers postgraduate studies in Shipping, Trade and Finance and Energy, Trade and Finance and offers the first specialist MSc degrees in these disciplines. Through its research, its unique blend of theory and practice in teaching and its creation of international dialogue, the Centre has gained international recognition among industry leaders, policy-makers, government and academics.
