It’s been another successful year for the MBA Programmes at Cass Business School. We look back at some of the year’s best moments.
Tom Ilube receives honorary degree from City
In January, the tech entrepreneur and educational philanthropist Tom Ilube (MBA 1988) was awarded a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his outstanding achievements in business and educational philanthropy. Tom embodies the ethos and aspirations of Cass Business School with his commitment to academic and professional excellence, community and enterprise.
MBA London Symposium brings stellar guests to Cass
The fifth Cass MBA London Symposium kicked off its four-day run in May at venues ranging from Cass, the British Museum, the National Gallery and the Science Museum.
Building on four previously successful events, high-profile business and industry leaders again stepped up to offer students a glimpse behind the scenes of businesses in the capital. After a morning of lectures, students spent the afternoons getting an inside track on London’s range of diverse organisations including Peter Jones, Fuller Smith and Turner, AppDynamics, and BCB Group.
Financial Times Entrepreneurship Rankings 2018
In July, the Cass MBA was ranked 5th globally, 1st in London and 2nd in Europe in the Financial Times 2018 entrepreneurship rankings. Additionally, the Financial Times data shows that the Cass MBA is:
- Joint 1st in Europe for school assistance in recruiting key staff
- 2nd in Europe for percentage of MBA graduates starting a company
- 3rd in Europe for alumni network assistance in recruiting key staff.
New Associate Dean for MBA programmes announced
Cass announced Professor Steve Thomas as its new Associate Dean, MBA programmes in August. Professor Thomas has taught at Cass since 2006 and currently teaches core introductory finance for the EMBA, Modular EMBA, and Dubai EMBA programmes, together with the Derivatives and Hedging elective for the Full-time MBA and Investment Strategy for the Dubai EMBA. He has a strong research and industry background and his research has won numerous awards.
Leadership Expedition to the South Pole (Inn)
Inspired by Irish hero Tom Crean’s lifesaving solo trek of 50km in 18 hours across Antarctica, Cass MBA students undertook a Leadership Expedition on the Dingle Peninsula in August. The 60 km Cass Leadership Expedition, zigzagging the Dingle Peninsula over three days and heading towards the South Pole (Inn), was organised by the Cass MBA Expeditionary Society, founded in 2017 after a successful pilot expedition to Mount Fansipan in IndoChina. The expedition was led by Dr Rodrigo Jordan, Cass Honorary Visiting Professor of Experiential Learning and globally celebrated mountaineer.
