New executive learning programme ‘Boosting Resilience: Survival Skills for the New Normal’ launches

The programme is one of four national flagship projects supported by Arts Council England.

Boosting Resilience: Survival Skills for the New Normal is an intense, boundary-pushing and catalytic two-year Executive Learning programme that will enable executive and board level staff working in arts and cultural organisations throughout England, to develop new approaches to building resilience through identifying and capturing the value of creative assets and intellectual property.

The programme will focus on developing organisations’ thinking on their creative assets, their existing and potential intellectual property and their abilities to maximise these through working with wider sectors, whilst anticipating and withstanding economic, social, environmental and technological change.

The programme will launch with a series of three Ideas Pools taking place in Bristol, London and Manchester in May 2017, and are designed to give participants a taster of the programme and methods that will be used.

Boosting Resilience: Survival Skills for the New Normal is being designed and delivered by three project partners: Cass Business School, City, University of London; The Culture Capital Exchange (TCCE), and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Each project partner brings a wealth of knowledge and practitioner expertise to deliver tailored executive learning for participants on the programme.

The programme is also one of only four national flagship projects supported by Arts Council England with the aim of exploring and piloting different approaches to sustainability across its portfolio.

Dr Sara Jones, Senior Lecturer in Creative Interactive System Design at Cass Business School, City, University of London, said:

“We are excited to have the opportunity to work with a broad range of organisations from across the arts and cultural sector, to develop and deliver new thinking on the use of intellectual property and, more broadly, intellectual capital to generate value, both for the organisations themselves and for addressing some of society’s more pressing challenges.”

Evelyn Wilson, Director, TCCE, said:

“Creativity and understanding how best to develop it to its fullest potential is a key challenge for many organisations. Living and working, as we do, in fast-moving and often complex environments makes this even more the case.

“TCCE is honoured and excited to be developing Boosting Resilience: Survival Skills for the New Normal and we look forward to working with our partners to co-design a programme that will deeply support fresh-thinking and doing not just in the arts sector but more widely too.”

Ian Gibbs, Fellow in the Centre for Enterprise, Manchester Metropolitan University, said:

“In a complex world where approaches to trade and technology are constantly evolving, remaining resilient can often be challenging. Our ‘Boosting Resilience: Survival Skills for the New Normal’ programme ensures that organisations in the arts and cultural sector are best equipped to meet these challenges and flourish in this time of uncertainty and excitement.”

Registration for the Ideas Pools is now open. Applications are open to arts and cultural organisations, museums, libraries and music education hubs.
