2017 Cass MBA London Symposium begins
MBA students gather at flagship event to learn from industry leaders.
Cass MBA London Symposium kicked off its four-day run on Monday at the business school on Bunhill Row.
Following three previously successful events, high-profile industry leaders have again stepped up to offer students a glimpse behind the scenes of businesses in the Capital.
After a morning of lectures, students will spend the afternoons going behind the scenes into London’s diverse range of organisations - such as Fulham Football Club, Fullers Pride Brewery and the Metropolitan Police, as well as the boardrooms of the City and Canary Wharf.
London is Global
The theme of the first day was London is Global, echoing the Mayor of London’s recent #LondonIsOpen campaign.
The first speaker of the day was Lord Mountevans Jeffrey Richard de Corban Evans, the late Lord Mayor of the City of London. Lord Mountevans served as the 688th Lord Mayor of the City of London from November 2015 - November 2016.
His speech was entitled Reflections of a Late Lord Mayor and he used the time to consider what he learned during his time in office, overseeing one of the world’s great global cities.
Lord Mountevans was followed by Ian Nunn, Chief Financial Officer, and David Hughes, Strategy and Service Director, Transport for London. They spoke on the topic of Keeping London Open and Keeping Transport Affordable.
Ian and David discussed the challenges of delivering a safe and affordable transport service for London’s growing population and its many visitors. They also spoke about the “jewel in the crown” of Crossrail which is due to open next year.

Ian and David were followed by Chris Gottlieb of from the London Mayor’s communications agency, London & Partners, with his engaging and interactive talk about branding London.
Chris told the story behind about his agency's recent successful #LondonIsOpen campaign and tasked students with pitching on behalf of an advertising agency to encourage businesses to invest in London, post-Brexit.
The Symposium is an elective element of the MBA course, and brings together more than 150 students from all Cass MBA cohorts, as well as MBA teams from partner schools in Europe and South Africa.
Plenary lectures continue this week at three of the capital’s iconic cultural institutions: the Science Museum, the National Gallery and the Royal Institution.

The inaugural Symposium was first held in 2014 to celebrate Cass’s unique network inside the heart of the global city. It mixes thought leadership in plenary sessions with a ‘backstage pass’ to some of London’s most iconic locations, brands and organisations which drive the city’s prosperity.
The Symposium is now the flagship MBA elective, providing students with excellent networking opportunities and access to some of London’s most prominent and respected business figures.
