We hope this CCE resource on lived experience on nonprofit boards will grow over time.
We welcome feedback from any nonprofit, charity or social enterprise that is on the pathway to greater board-level inclusion of those with lived experience of their organisation's cause.
Get involved
Wherever you are along the pathway to including lived experience of the cause on your organisation's board, we welcome your thoughts and reflections on what you have learned and what has worked in your organisation, in relation to:
- the benefits you have recognised
- issues you may have encountered in getting trustees with lived experience on board,
- how you are working to ensure lived experience is valued in decision making
- how your organisation approaches enabling the inclusion and participation of trustees with lived experience
We're also keen to hear suggestions for useful links or other materials on lived experience that you'd find helpful, as we plan future updates.

We launched our 'Lived experience on nonprofit boards' online resource in April 2021 with a webinar.
The session was hosted by Caroline Copeman, Fiona Ash and Jacqueline Williams from CCE’s governance team and they were joined by guest speakers Judith Davey (Chief Executive, The Advocacy Project) and Darren Murinas (Chief Executive, Expert Citizens CIC). Their discussion considered the benefits and value to boards of including trustees with lived experience and how to overcome some of the issues that may be encountered.
